LYRASIS Publishes Report from its Summit Meeting on Cataloging
July 7, 2010, Atlanta, GA - On May 26, 2010, LYRASIS convened a summit meeting in Atlanta with eight academic library directors from member institutions across the nation to discuss the future of the library catalog and the cataloging process. A report of the summit is now available on the LYRASIS website including responses to the following:
- What still needs to be cataloged?
- How can libraries reduce their cataloging costs?
- What is the continuing value of the catalog?
- What is the relationship of cataloging to resource sharing?
- What is the future for cataloging staff?
- What should be done concerning the cataloging of local digitized collections?
"Cataloging is a major part of library functioning. The summit meeting provided a forum for library leaders to share cataloging practices and discuss solutions to cataloging challenges. Because the report contains information that is relevant to all libraries, we have posted it on our website to make it available to the entire library community," said Kate Nevins, LYRASIS CEO.
"The report also includes recommendations which outline services that LYRASIS can provide to help library professionals address current and future cataloging issues," added Arnold Hirshon, LYRASIS Chief Strategist and Executive Consultant.
